Tree Hugging

Have you hugged a tree lately?

On Saturday, April 11, 2009 Summum volunteers organized a community tree care day. Primary care was given to the fifty Austrian Black Pine trees that were planted along I-15 in 2004.

The friendly staff of Organic Tree & Spray volunteered time and supplies to the effort.

Bad weather kept a lot of people from showing up, but we got most of the job done. It was a good trial run. We will need to organize another tree care day in May. Next time we’ll get the city to advertise to their volunteer networks. Maybe the mayor will even show up.

While the trees were sprayed other volunteers were picking up trash and pulling weeds. There was so much trash and weeds that we couldn’t get everything in the dumpster.

We found several brown trees. However, there is a bit of green in many of them. We’re excited to see if the natural nutrients will help these trees come back to the land of the living.

After we were all done, Su made a final inspection of the hill and was looking happy with the progress.
